Celebrate Diwali 2026 in Montreal with Authentic Indian Food from Express Indien

Butter chicken and naan for a Diwali dinner at Express Indien Montreal

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, falls on Sunday, November 8, 2026. It is the biggest celebration of the year for millions of families, and food sits at the heart of it. Homes fill with diyas, rangoli, sweets and long dinners with family and friends.

If you are celebrating in Montreal this year, Express Indien in NDG can make your Diwali feast easy, whether you dine with us, pick up takeout or host a party at home.

What is Diwali?

Diwali celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. Families clean and decorate their homes, light oil lamps, pray to Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity and share sweets with neighbours. Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities all mark the festival, and today many Montrealers of every background join in.

A Diwali menu straight from North India

Since 2010, our kitchen in NDG has been cooking the rich flavours of Northern India. For a festive table, our guests love:

Vegetarian guests are well covered too: Dal Tadka, Dal Makhani and our Vegetarian Thali make a full meatless feast. Our food is also halal.

Hosting a Diwali party? Let us cater it

Cooking for a big family gathering takes days. Our catering packages feed groups of 10 or more guests and include appetizers, main courses, pulao rice, tandoori naan, raita, salad and dessert. Choose from:

We normally need 6 hours' notice, but Diwali is our busiest week. Book your Diwali catering a few days ahead to secure your spot. See all options on our Catering page.

Diwali at the office

Many Montreal workplaces now celebrate Diwali with their teams. An Indian lunch is a simple way to share the festival with colleagues. Our catering works for office lunches, school events and community gatherings across the island of Montreal.

Dine in, take out or get it delivered

On Diwali Sunday (November 8), we are open for dinner from 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Reserve a table early, or order online for pickup or delivery.

From our family to yours, Happy Diwali! May the Festival of Lights bring you joy, health and prosperity.
